Container Delivery PDF Print E-mail

It is essential that we arrange the right container delivery vehicle for your needs and location.  Some of the terms relating to the vehicles used for transporting containers are detailed below:

  1. Normal Chassis Vehicle:  The most usual vehicle used in the shipping industry.  This is a large truck capable carrying 20 or 40ft containers on top of a normal truck/trailer.  The container will arrive on the back of the truck and be 3-4ft from the ground.  This means that you’ll either be lifting everything onto the truck (you will need at least 4 people to do this safely), or you can obtain a ramp from a local supplier.
  2. HiAb or Truck Mounted Crane:  These vehicles will deliver a container to your property with a fairly regular-looking crane and a chain hook system – onto the ground.  The truck-mounted cranes can position containers some distance from the location of the vehicle – but usually the container must be empty.  If you want your container collecting after delivery, it would usually be lifted up with a sideloader (see below) which has limited maneuverability. Please make sure we are advised of your requirements before requesting a truck-mounted crane delivery.  Maximum lifting weight 4-8 tonnes (always consult us prior)
  3. SideLoader or Container Lifter:   These are still quite rare in the UK, but EwePack uses ‘lifters’ to collect loaded containers and transport them to the docks, for instance.  The advantage is that you can load at ground level; take several days loading and drive in equipment of cars quite easily.  Maximum weight is 22 tonnes (always consult us prior)

The availability of the specialist trucks will depend on your location and the destination of the cargo.  If you need the container placing on the ground, please help us by providing the following info:

  • Owner of property to be left on (i.e. a public highway, private property)
  • Kind of access (i.e. goods yard, or along narrow residents street)
  • Length of time required to load (a few hours; a few days, etc.)
  • Please take photos of the access to the loading address, the loading location or required position of the container – please look up and see if there are any overhead wires or trees.

Normal Chassis – This means your container will arrive on the back of a truck or trailer , about 1.1 metre off the ground.

Truck Mounted Crane
Truck-Mounted Crane – these delivery lorries are very versatile, but restricted in lifting weight capacity.

Little Lifter
Little Lifter – available in a few locations, the sideloader with a lifting capacity of 18 tonnes for a 20ft container only.

Big Lifter
Big Lifter - available throughout the UK and Europe as well as in some overseas destinations. Lift/carries up to 21 tonnes.
